Digital Media

I had come across a video online years ago of Tupac Shakur (aka 2pac) the famous American rapper, it was reported that he is dead (or at least supposedly, apparently he is still alive 😲). Anyway following on from a link on Twitter I found at the time #liveatcoachella it had taken me to a live performance of the man 2pac himself, he was graced with other famous rappers such as Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent and a host of other American rappers.

The most fascinating thing about this, was that it was a hologram of Tupac and not him actually being there (of course, he is dead after all right?). What I had witnessed was actually quite unbelievable it was so life like you could almost believe he was physically there, it just goes to show the advancement of technology we had at that particular time of course now, we are at another level entirely.

Pioneers in augmented reality technology

With apps such as Pokemon Go, (which had recently taken the world by storm) again highlights the level we are at in technology. Pokemon Go is a mobile application that allows an Iphone and or Android user, to live the pocket monster world in real life. Users step out into the real world with their phone at hand (literally in their hand) discovering, capturing and exploring the world of Pokemon, but this time with the opportunity to actually catch their own Pokemon, raise them and battle them as the characters did in the anime.

Another impressive piece of technology that has been on the rise is virtual reality (vr). Virtual reality is almost as it sounds, you are in a three-dimensional image and or environment but it only exists as a computer generated simulation. Once the glasses have been put on, you are literally in your own world, sound and sight and maybe touch are no longer yours..well as long as you have the headset on. The idea is to experience a simulated world through the vr headset, interact, experience sensations, that are seemingly real, the headset has been introduced into games, videos (such as military training videos), movies (The Avengers) and now onto mobile phones (Samsung Galaxy). The headset acts as the door to an immersive, interactive, simulated experience generated by a computer. Additionally some vr headsets do include glove fitted sensors which can certainly bring a more captivating experience I would imagine.

These were some other links I had found related to vr and augmented reality (ar) that I thought were quite interesting.

What does the future hold?
